For This Ancient, Giving to Farmington Means More Friendships

Mary Ann "Bondy" BonDurant Hodgkins ’54 is grateful to Miss Porter’s School, or “Farmington” as it was called when she attended, for several reasons. The School gave her “a great sense of independence and confidence” and prepared her excellently for life: “When I graduated, it was like a springboard or launchpad to the future.”

Her classes, especially those with Miss Watson, Mr. Spear, Miss Prout, and Mr. Cadbury, prepared her well for college. And as an all-girls school, Farmington “allow[ed] women to really flourish in ways that they sometimes can’t in a co-ed environment.”

But Bondy’s biggest motivations to make a planned gift and join the Moonbeams Circle in 2004 were the deep friendships she made at Farmington. She was distinctly reminded of these friendships during her 50th reunion, when a large portion of her class returned. Bondy realized that “those friendships were so valuable and so very important, and I really wanted to be sure that future generations had that kind of an association with classmates and other women.”

She wants current and future students to have the kind of connection she has with her Farmington friends, from whom she can go years without hearing and then have a phone conversation that feels “as though we had lunch last week.” For these reasons and more, Bondy believes planned giving is essential as “a way we can give back and ensure [the School] for those who follow in the future.”
