Planned Giving Menu:

FOR THIS ANCIENT, PLANNED GIVING IS “AS SIMPLE AS YOU WANT TO MAKE IT”

Dukin "Inne" Kim Barber ’89

Prior to 2015, Dukin "Inne" Kim Barber ’89 had heard of the Moonbeams Circle but never thought it applied to her. “I didn’t think it was relevant to me,” she admitted. However, a conversation over lunch with MPS Director of Gift Planning Susan MacColl Walker P'06 changed her perspective. “As I kept receiving more information and becoming educated about it, I realized, wait, it could be easy.”

Although Inne was already giving annually to the School, she soon recognized she wanted to make a more lasting impact as part of her legacy and decided to make Porter’s a beneficiary of her retirement fund.

As Inne celebrates her tenth year in the Moonbeams Circle in 2025, her outlook on giving has evolved. She believes that planned giving is for Ancients of all ages, including those in their twenties.

“Looking back at my own experience as a young adult, I know budgeting can be challenging. You might think, ‘I’m still figuring out my rent.’ But if you consider giving through something like a portion of your retirement fund, it doesn't impact you right now. It won’t cramp your style,” she explained with a laugh.

Planned giving, she added, is just one of many ways to contribute. “Every Ancient should consider giving throughout the year to the Annual Fund as well as through their asset-distribution plans.” Inne's practical approach serves as a reminder that giving is a personal choice, and there are always opportunities to make an enduring impact—no matter how much you’re able to give.
